Yes. That’s essentially how the two groups came together.
It was nothing unusual. Such a coalition was not only for these two specific groups, but there was, and has been, a natural coalition between Anti-Communist politics and Religions world-wide because of Karl Marx's view of religion as opium and because Communist governments have oppressed religious freedom. Hence, the coalition was a natural and world wide phonomenon, especially during the Cold War.
