Why do you think so sure that it is a rip off of Star Trek?
Could it be that Start Trek was a rip off of Japanese film "The Ballad of Narayama" by Shohei Imamura, a Palme d'Or winner at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ballad_of_Narayama_(1983_film) The film was a remake of 1958 Japanese film with the same title by Keisuke Kinoshita. Both films were based on 1956 Japanese novel with the same tile by Shichiro Fukazawa. They are all based on a very famous Japanese folklore "Ubasute", a legendary practice in which elderly people were carried to a mountain and abandoned to die. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubasute This a recurring theme deeply rooted in Japanese minds through generations - without help of an American Sci-Fi movie.日米共同声明に抗議 日本公使に「強烈な不満」表明―中国
